The Il Campaccio winery produces DellaVilla Chianti Classico, DellaVilla Chianti Classico Riserva, Villese IGT (Super Tuscan), and Vin Santo wines. It is the smallest winery in the entire Chianti Classico zone. Its vineyard comprises 0.5 hectares or 1.2 acres. This land was formerly owned by the parish of Santa Cristina alla Villa in the historic comune (township) of Radda in Chianti. In the period after World War Two, the end of the traditional sharecropping system of agriculture in Tuscany led to a decision by local priests to sell the land. It was purchased by the father of Irma Regoli, and when he passed away, it became the property of Irma and her husband Romolo Carrai. Thus it was that a parcel of land that formerly been used to grow a variety of crops including grain, fruits and vegetables, some wine grapes and olives, was transformed into a vineyard producing fine wine. The production of this wine is the result of the passion, skill, and determination of Romolo Carrai, who has been responsible for making wine of the highest quality for many years. This work continues today with the assistance of his children and grandchildren.
